In 1801, when his younger brother Jeong Yak-yong headed to Gangjin, the older brother Jeong Yak-jeon was exiled to Heuksando, an isolated island completely cut off from the mainland. However, instead of being trapped in the despair of a cramped room, he turned his eyes to the blue ocean unfolding before him.

Jeong Yak-jeon cast aside his prestige as a nobleman without hesitation, took a young island fisherman named 'Chang-dae' as his teacher, and asked about and recorded the principles of the sea. Jasaneobo (玆山魚譜), the greatest marine biology encyclopedia of the Joseon Dynasty born in this way, is the fruit of a great curiosity that broke down the barriers of age and social status.
